Airbrush Tanning
Airbrush tanning is different from other methods of tanning because it is applied by a technician. When someone else is applying the tanning solution, you can be sure that all the desired areas you want to tan will be reached. This is not always possible with self-tanners. You will love the results... Ladies, it's your stay-on makeup for up to 5 - 10 days. Airbrush tanning is the newest phase in application of self-tanning products. It is the newest trend for maintaining a safe, yet glowing tan. It is a great alternative to sun exposure, tanning beds, and even self tanning lotions that you can buy in stores. Both sun exposure and tanning beds can be extremely harmful to the skin, causing a development of burns, wrinkles, freckles, moles, and even forms of skin cancer. Self-applied self tanning lotions can be frustrating because they are hard to apply and often do not provide the most desirable results. Today's tanners are very natural looking and are completely harmless. Just like a natural suntan, the results are temporary, because the outer layer of skin is continuously "sloughing" off. The tanner is applied with a low-pressure airbrush gun, which gives a more even coverage than creams. You can get a sunless tan even if you can't get a real tan. What is Airbrush Tanning?
* Airbrush tanning solution contains an FDA approved cosmetic ingredient called Dihydroxyacetone (or DHA).
* DHA is derived from a vegetable source such as sugar cane or sugar beets.
* The Airbrush Technician with the use of the airbrush equipment disperses an even mist of DHA tanning solution over the body.
* The DHA solution that is airbrushed on your skin reacts with the keratin protein in the top (dead) layer of your skin to create a tan that begins to appear within a few hours and is complete after 24 hours.
* The darker you tan naturally; the darker you will tan with the DHA solution.
* Airbrush tanning is applied by a trained technician who is skilled at providing the most even coverage you can possibly attain. This means your tan will look better!
* Although it is possible to Double Spray in the same day, the skin can realistically absorb so much. For best results we recommend a 2nd session within 3 days to start your base, and to develop deep colour. To maintaining your tan colour it is necessary to re-spray every 5 - 10 days.

Why Should I Change to Airbrush Tanning?
* Sunning and lying in a tanning bed can be relaxing but irreparable damage can be caused to the skin.
* It is proven that tanning in the sun or in tanning beds can lead to premature aging (wrinkles & leathery skin) and cause skin cancer.
* The most dangerous type of skin cancer “melanoma” is more common in women and can happen at any age.
* A traditional tan although often seen as a sign of health is actually a sign that the skin has been damaged by ultraviolet radiation.
* When skin cells are damaged by the sun or tanning beds, melanin rushes to the surface to provide protection against the next exposure. As you slowly build up a “protective” tan your skin is darkening in response to damage on top of damage.
* With airbrush tanning you can get a tan even if you can’t get a natural one.
* Airbrush tanning is completely safe and sunless tanning solutions are better now than they have ever been.
* A human technician can reach hard to apply areas such as behind the knees, around elbows, fingers and other places that spray booth, A.K.A. “Human Car Wash” just cannot effectively provide even coverage in these areas.
* Airbrush tanning takes far less time than a natural tan…you have a tan the same day.
* One sun-less airbrush session results in a similar depth of tan as 4 - 6 UV tanning bed exposures.
* Sufferers of the skin disorder Vitiligo (lack of skin pigmentation) can benefit immensely from the application of DHA airbrush tanning solutions to achieve uniform skin coloration. Clinical uses may also include camouflage of some skin irregularities such as leg spider veins, or possibly as protection of individuals with certain photosensitivity disorders.
* Although there is no evidence that any ingredients in DHA tanning solutions are harmful to pregnant or nursing mothers, we elect not to take any chances and do not airbrush pregnant women in the first trimester. If you are beyond the first trimester or nursing, your doctor must grant written permission before you can be airbrushed tanned.
* DHA tanning solutions will not prevent your skin from sunburns or UV damage. Please take the necessary precautions for exposure.
* Hollywood celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez (to name only a few) prefer airbrush sunless tanning because of its personalized airbrushed application and natural appearance. Airbrush tanning is also used by cheerleaders, for Pro Football, major beauty pageant contestants, models, dancers, photographers, body building contestants, and many more use Airbrush tanning. These are people who are in the business of looking good - Shouldn't you use the preferred method of tanning used by them.
Here’s What to Do Before Your Tanning Session: * For best results and longevity, the morning of your tanning session, you will need to shower, shave (waxing should be done 24 hours prior) and exfoliate extremely well. We recommend using baking soda / non moisturizing shower gel and a rough textured washcloth or exfoliating mitts. Exfoliating will remove any dead skin that is ready to slough as well as remove any remnants of previous tans prior to having your next sunless spray session. Exfoliate completely but gently. Do not make your skin red or sore. Concentrate on any known dry areas you may have. * If possible apply nail polish (clear or colour) to prevent the possibility of the nails becoming discoloured from the solution. * Take out contact lenses, if worn and remove any jewelery that could block the tanning solution from penetrating the skin causing unevenness. * DO NOT apply any moisturizer, oils, perfumes, deodorant or makeup until after your post-tan shower. Your skin must be clean and dry. * Wear/bring a dark coloured bathing suit or undergarments which will give you the tan lines you desire. Cotton is recommended but will wash out of most other machine washable fabrics with the exception of nylon, silk, leather and wool which may be permanently stained. Bring a towel to protect your car seat (particularly leather) if necessary. * Tan lines are optional depending on your comfort level. We urge you to bring a friend along for your session if you desire. * Bring loose fitting, dark clothing & sandals (if possible) to wear home to maximize tanning results. * Plan not to shower, bathe, swim or perspire/workout for a period of 6 - 8 hours after you tan…. the longer the better. Less than 6 hours will have a diminishing effect on the tan. * Do Not rub any areas of the body especially the face. Do Not wash hands. * At bedtime, we suggest wearing pajamas or sweats and placing a small towel on your pillowcase to avoid laundering sheets/linens.
Your Tanning Session:
* Technician may pre-moisturize your hands, feet, knees and elbows to control absorption.
* You must wait 6 - 8 hours (can be left on up to 24 hours for the deepest penetration) before you shower. This will allow the solution ample time to reach with the amino acids in the skin.
* Apply Moisturizer Tan Extender (DHA is added to the moisturizer) daily to slow down the fading of your tan and do not exfoliate. Healthy, hydrated skin prolongs the longevity of your fabulous new tan. * Your tan will fade gradually and will last anywhere from 5 – 10 days depending on your skin type, how well you care for your skin by moisturizing, if you gently towel dry, if you wear or avoid clothes that chafe, take quick warm showers instead of long hot showers or baths, anything that would encourage the skin to shed. The life of the tan can be nearly doubled through daily moisturizing alone. * The easiest way to remove an airbrushed tan is an “oil and soak” bath. Coat your skin with baby oil and let soak for 20 to 30 minutes. This helps loosen much of the dead skin on the surface. After take a long tub soak, in warm soapy bubbly water for at least 20 to 40 minutes. Exfoliate with a washcloth or exfoliating gloves and baking soda (shower gel, Lava or Irish Spring soap can be substituted for baking soda). After your bath, rub skin briskly with a towel, concentrating on any missed areas.
The Story of DHA (Dihydroxyactone) DHA was first used as an active ingredient during research on the treatment of diabetics, some of whom, tolerated DHA better than glucose. In 1957 the tanning properties of DHA were discovered in a children's hospital. DHA was administered orally as a treatment of a childhood glycogen storage disease. The doctor noticed that children that spit up some of the DHA mixture developed brown spots where the DHA splashed on the skin. The doctor experimented by rubbing the mixture on her own skin. She tanned as well. The first scientific papers on DHA were published in 1060. DHA's physicochemical properties, tanning mechanics and skin tolerance have been explored since these studies resulting in an improved method of application, a more natural looking and more uniform tan. Do it yourself Sun-less tanning products
1 - Exfoliate first, pigments from bronzers and foundations grab dead skin cells and can leave uneven dark spots on the skin. If you have dry skin apply moisturizer to those areas first. e.g.. knees, elbows and feet
2- Work slowly and be sure to rub the product completely into your skin. If you are prone to streaks, use a lotion (instead of a quick-drying foam) which will give you more time to smooth out any uneven areas. Tanners with built- in tints also minimize the risk of streaks.
3- Experiment to find the perfect shade. Unless your natural skin tone is very dark, start off with a product with a lower concentration of DHA (the active ingredient that “tans” your skin), Give yourself 2 or 3 applications, spread out over the next few days. Most self-tanners allow you to gradually build up your colour – no matter what your skin tone – based on the number of applications. Usually there is 3- 5 different levels of colour to choose from.
4- Wash your hands several times while applying tanner – don’t forget to soap between your fingers and around your nails, (it is best to wear disposable latex gloves to avoid orange palms and staining your nail art). After you’ve applied the product, remove gloves and dab the backs of your hands with a tiny amount, then rub then together so the shade on your hands matches your arms.
